its always interesting seeing where the limitations of ones style may lie. A change in subject matter like this can diffently test you. In my opinion you did a great job. You really showed great control of your style, while not hiding it, to cover such a subject. (thumbup) from me.

thanks a lot dude, yeah i like mixing things up now and then, helps keep the gallery from becoming stagnant, plus through experimentation u discover new methods, new techniques and it sometimes opens your eyes to a new style u didnt think u were capable of, i forgot to add it but i used pencil and pantone markers as well as diluted indian ink (for the splatters) and the colour is just ps tweaking.

impressive work. love the blending of the shapes, and the faceless characters on the right ;) they tend to say a lot about the victims of a war.

Well, the work itself is great, I like the use of selective color and your application of stiff line to define organic shape.

However, I can't help but comment on this as I have spent 18 months in Iraq as an American soldier and I'm a bit dissapointed you took the route of the news media and emphasized tradgedy. You could have shown Iraqis taking part in free elections for the first time in over 40 years, shown an Iraqi woman voting, or show the amount of schools/hospitals that were built.

If you really adament about going the route of 'war sucks' I think you should have made it more ambiguous...showed non specific people and a non specific flag so that it's message would be more timeless and not stuck on a particular incident. When people see this it's going to incite more negative affects about the U.S. and this conflict, rather than thinking about the OVERALL aspect of the sadness in war.

As I understand more people recognize that American troops are the main force over there, don't forget that your country has contributed alot as well, no reason you couldn't have used your own flag ;) ....great folks to work with btw, professional and socialble at the same time..

War is such a sensitive subject, I can't imagine one can effectively summarize it in one image. I think this poster is a good contribution towards expressing some of the feelings/perceptions/tragedy of the war and I'm sure there is much more to it than meets the eye. It's in the hearts and minds of everyone and I think what is most important out of all of this, is that the world learn from war (the mistakes, tragedies, the good outcomes and the scars) and grow beyond it one day...to be able to answer the problems we have without war. In a perfect world..

From an artistic point of view, this is very nicely put together. I love your style :)

wow - Wysiwyg - honestly ? Is there no pain ? Is there no feeling ?

Can u wish it upon someone one else ? would u feel like u won ? can anyone ever win .

When u kill another for nothing but their life - arent u taking it for something les then survival ? I cant help but to feel like - Everyone - that has ever died, has only wanted to be known 0 known to make it - so my libral ass have complaion ?> complain that so many are dying

seriously please feel something.

@Clairvoyant

My feelings are my own...I have shed my tears for both my friends lost and those innocents who became collateral damage. I have shown my fustration to those both in the conflict and no where near it. I find often that idealism grows in proportion to the distance from the problem.

My feelings have no bearing on critiquing work when it's of a political nature and trying to portray a message. My time is spent analyzing if the message is clear or not.

Please don't assume you understand my character b/c I'm not engulfed in agony through my words.

My apologies to billmud, as I did not mean to hijack the comments thread. To make up for it I offer another crit..

Perhaps a child's perspective could evoke even more emotion...

 07/02/06 @431

woah...your line technique is freaking amazing, i see why your elite, i would say l33t even...ignoring the politics of the issue, (because i think politics is a farse, a disguise) the expression is completely realized with in the image, 100% communitive work, and thats really hard to do, a good splash of color centered and giving weight to the image...general good composition work, everything is framed nicely, the eyepath is pleasing, as it sort of lets you wander around the piece and take it all in...water colors, markers, all digital?? like any great piece its hard to tell

some inking, or darker blocking around the edge of the woman might create a better sense of depth, but would be hard to add with out breaking up the piece...just brainstorming, trying not too leave a pointless comment

@ the guy with a target in his avatar (Wysiwig):

i don't agree. sure, as an american soldier you couldn't have said something else. but i think most people in the rest of the world see this differently. usa iniziated this, of course they are more responsible than other countries.
